Fri, October 4th
7pm
108 W Germania Pl. Chicago, IL
Tickets $100

Showcasing the first Ferris wheel, dazzling and unprecedented electrification, and exhibits from around the world, the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 was Chicago’s chance to demonstrate that it had risen from the ashes of the Great Fire and was about to take its place as one of the world’s great cities.

Set in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast, Germania Place endures as one of Chicago’s most famous and significant historical landmarks built in America’s Gilded Age of the 19th Century. Designed in 1888 by the architectural firm Addison & Fielder, Germania Place is home to a 15’ stained glass portrait centerpiece designed in Heidelberg, Germany, and first exhibited at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair.

Join special host Paul Durica of Chicago By Day & Night at Germania Place for a journey through the Chicago of 120 years ago. Celebrate the cuisine of yesteryear with a multi-course feast created by Found Executive Chef, Nicole Pederson in collaboration with Brooklyn Brewery House Chef, Andrew Gerson.

Guests will celebrate time past with Brooklyn Brewery libations, the music of Justin Amolsch of Brass Inferno, and special appearances by historical figures including the Kimballs, Pullmans, Palmers, Armours, and Glessners as well as architect Daniel Burnham and poet Harriet Monroe.

Period attired encouraged but not required. Festive cheer a must. See menu below:

A graduate of the University of Gastronomic Sciences and an active member of Slow Food, Brooklyn House Chef Andrew Gerson's approach to cooking is based on supporting local food systems and celebrating good food and real beer. Chef Andrew is on a food crawl like no other, sharing and learning with chefs around the country with The Mash. Every Slow Supper is the delicious culmination of what he's absorbed from earlier stops on the tour.

Chef Nicole Pederson has a terrific pedigree in food. After culinary school in her hometown of Minneapolis and staging in France, she was at Gramercy Tavern in New York then Lula Café in Chicago, where she honed her passion for all things local. She most recently held the post of Executive Chef at C-House, where she cut her teeth on running a kitchen. Nicole’s Midwestern roots contribute to her focus on pure flavors, simplicity, and seasonality in her cuisine, evident in Found’s produce-centric menu.

Paul Durica has an MFA in creative writing from the University of Michigan and a PhD in English from the University of Chicago. His writing has appeared in PoetryThe ChicagoanTin HouseMid-American Review, and Indiana Review among other places. He is the founder of Pocket Guide to Hell, a series of free and interactive talks, walks, and reenactments that deal with Chicago’s past.

Helping color in The Mash, NBNY, the organizers of Brooklyn’s Bring to Light festival, will map their immersive installations of light and projection art to the architecture of the Boat Shop. It's a mix of sculpture and projection called "Kings County Cornucopia" and it must be seen to be believed. (See video below)
