Since our founding, in 1988, Brooklyn Brewery has donated beer to countless charities and non-profits. We've also supported entreprenerus and start-ups along the way. The Mash is our chance to bring some of our favorite artists, authors, musicians and start-ups on the road. Check them out. They help make The Mash the calvacade of stars that it is.
Slow Food USA is part of a global movement, which believes everyone has the right to good, clean, and fair food. With over 250,000 supporters, 25,000 members and 225 chapters nationwide, Slow Food USA advocates for food and farming policy that is good for the public, good for the planet, and good for farmers and workers. “Slow Food is the celebration of justice and joy, and through food, the celebration of our local communities and cultural diversity,” says Richard McCarthy, Executive Director of Slow Food USA. “It might be ambitious, but we imagine a world where everyone can easily access fresh, high quality food and where people bridge their differences through the simple pleasure of a shared meal. Food is the common denominator between us all, and we must run towards it.”
The Brooklyn Brewery Mash benefits Slow Food USA. Proceeds from every Mash ticket sold go to local Slow Food chapters in each city we visit.
“We’re delighted to forge a partnership with Brooklyn Brewery as it begins to build new posts with communities around the country,” says McCarthy. “Brewmaster Garrett Oliver has been a Slow Food supporter for a long time and we’re thrilled they will be supporting our local chapters. They’ve set the bar high with their commitment to community and sustainability and we’re looking forward to seeing them continue to raise the standards for beer production worldwide.”

Founded in 2010 by Chef Marcus Samuelsson, Food Republic believes that there is as much to be gained by reducing Budweiser into a syrup for use in cocktails as there is in mastering a perfectly cooked chicken.
DJ Jonathan Toubin's Soul Clap and Dance-Off is North America's most popular soul party - by far playing to more people in more places and generating more capital than any of its contemporaries. Founded in New York City the concept is simple-all night dancing to the wild soul 45s of subterranean superstar DJ Mr. Jonathan Toubin and, in the middle, a $100 dance contest judged by a community panel. Recession-friendly mass entertainment with a universally cheap door price, the dance party/spectacle not only sells beyond capacity at home, but has brought its excitement to domestic markets all the way from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine and internationally from Tel Aviv to Mexico City-including monthly residencies in New York, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, Oakland, and PDX. The Dance-Off portion features judges from every edge of music and culture from classic subcultural icons like Mike Watt and Jello Biafra, to rock stars Andrew Van Wyngarden (MGMT) and Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), to interesting cultural figures like Karla LaVey (Satanic Priestess) and Matt Gonzalez (Green Party Vice Presidential Candidate) to your favorite neighborhood heroes.
The Found Footage Festival is a one-of-a-kind event that showcases footage from videos that were found at garage sales and thrift stores and in warehouses and dumpsters across the country. FFF is Nick Preuer and Joe Pickett and is based in New York City.
They began collecting found videotapes in 1991 after stumbling across a training video entitled, "Inside and Outside Custodial Duties" in a McDonald's break room. Since then, Joe & Nick have compiled an impressive collection of strange, outrageous, and profoundly stupid videos on VHS.
Since the first tour in 2004, the Found Footage Festival has gone on to sell out hundreds of shows across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. The festival has been featured on National Public Radio, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and G4 TV’s Attack Of The Show, and has been named a critic’s pick in dozens of publications, including The Village Voice, Los Angeles Times AVClub.com ("Skull-crushingly funny.") and The Chicago Tribune.
The Vendy Awards is NYC’s premier street food showcase and an intense cook-off between the best sidewalk chefs. The Vendys is a fundraiser for the Street Vendor Project, a membership-based non-profit organization that stands up for vendors’ rights.
“The Vendy Awards is a unique and delicious way to eat your way through a city's diverse and exciting food scene all in one place. It is a tasting-event, a street-side cook-off and an opportunity to shine a light on the often unsung heros of the culinary world,” says Helena Tubin, Managing Director. “The Vendy Awards is honored and excited to partner with Brooklyn Brewery on The Mash. Like Brooklyn Brewery, the birthplace of the Vendys is New York--We can't wait to bring a little of NYC to new audiences, while celebrating and honoring local street food chefs on their home turf.”
Togather is a Brooklyn-based book event crowdfunding platform that unites authors with new audiences all over the country. It was founded in 2011 by Andrew Kessler, who realized while promoting his first book that there was a better way to do readings – a community funding model that would ensure book talks were always fun, well-attended, and worth everyone’s while. Andrew and his team of expert book nerds are thrilled to be working with Brooklyn Brewery to bring Brooklyn authors to 11 cities across the country this year.
An international community of incredible people who share a passion for food, drinks and good conversations, Chaos Cooking’s staple event is where everyone brings the ingredients for one dish and then cooks together in one space. All recipes must be finished and space returned to original condition by the end of the event, while everyone is socializing, enjoying drinks and eating tasty dishes.
The Mash is an interactive tour of our favorite food, music, comedy, literature and beer, visiting 11 cities from March-December in 2013.
